Grewelthorpe is a village in the suburbs of Harrogate which lies between Ripon and Masham. Surrounded by countryside the village has a pub, school, playpark and pond (with many hungry ducks) along with a Village Hall which has a busy and extensive set of events including fitness classes and live music
Grewelthorpe has lots of wonderful walks through the surrounding countryside. Hackfall Woods can be reached on foot within 10 minutes of the front door of the cottage, it is open to the public and can be explored for free. It comprises of 120 acres of woodland amongst which you will find follies, ruins, streams, waterfalls and even a beach, all just waiting to be discovered and explored.
In Kirkby Malzeard (5 minutes drive) there is another play park, full football pitch, tennis courts (free to use and always open) and a basket ball court. Along with a doctors, takeaway and pub.
Within 10 minutes you can reach the nearby villages of Masham and Ripon. Masham is home to The Spirit of Masham, gin distillery, The Black Sheep Brewery and Theakstons Brewery. Masham is a busy market town with a number of pubs and restaurants. Ripon is the nearest City, where you can find supermarkets, shops and of course Ripon Cathedral.
We are very lucky to have 2 amazing 5 star hotels within just a few miles of the cottage. Swinton Castle and Grantley Hall both have incredible Spa's, beautiful restaurants (that could rival top London hotels for their quality and standards) and amazing grounds. Swinton Castle, has owls and deer that can be seen within their extensive landscaped gardens. Afternoon Tea at both of these hotels comes highly recommended and Swinton Castle has a wonderful Christmas program, offering carol signing and wreath making.
I hope this has given you a little insight into what is available locally, please don't hesitate to get in touch if you want to know anything further.
