Grewelthorpe is alive this morning, the air of positivity sits in the air as we rejoice at yesterdays news. The birds are singing loudly and as I write this I am outside at 6.30.a.m. feeling the warmth of the days promise on my skin. Its set to be a glorious summers day.
Business owners and holiday makers alike were filled with nervous emotions at what the Government announcement might bring, thankfully the news came that we had been hoping for. Boris confirmed that another step on the roadmap back to normality would begin on the 4th July 2020. Never have we valued our freedom more. It has ignited passions and brought us all closer to determining what it is that we want from our lives. Travel is back on the agenda, along with meals out, cinema trips and spending time with loved ones. Second homes are no longer out of bounds and if we want to stay overnight somewhere we can. The 4th July 2020 has been speculated about for months and finally it is becoming a reality, Independence Day really is living up to its name this year.
For us, yesterday saw a flurry of bookings, the BBC News reported that there will be a shortage of Holiday cottages available this year and from the holiday cottage forums we are part of everyone is feeling a huge sense of relief after being closed for 3 months that the staycation is back on the agenda and once again we can support our local economy and dust off our empty homes to be refilled with the sounds of happy holiday makers.

Lockdown has made us all appreciate what puts the Great in Great Britain, the luscious green countryside the clean beaches and the breathtaking landscapes are there for the taking. Maybe we have all been so focused on the far flung destinations, or too busy at work to stop and notice what is right here under our noses. Taking time out has had devastating effects on many, we have suffered loneliness, boredom and financial worries all while juggling childcare and working from home, but in everything we have to look for the positives. Spending so much time with our Children has brought us all closer, we have learnt new ways of working as our understanding of technology has increased. We have found beauty in the simpler things, walks in the countryside, eating home cooked meals, talking to our neighbours. Will life go back to how it was before? No I don't think it will, it will be different but maybe different can be good too.
