As a foodie couple (husband is a chef with his own catering company and Im a Nutritionist) we love everything food related. A trip to North Yorkshire wouldn't be complete without trying out some of the County's best kept secrets, here you will find our suggestions for your own "Must try" list whilst in our beautiful County.

Masham Sausages, Ok we simply had to start with a super local company. Masham sausages are by far and wide the best quality sausages we have tried. The perfect sausage sarnie is made using Masham Sausages!
It wouldn't be a trip to Yorkshire without eating at least one Yorkshire pudding. On a recent trip to York we tried our first Yorkshire pudding Wrap from the York Roast Company and it was nothing short of genius. Sunday lunch in a wrap, who would have thought it?
The great British classic - Fish and Chips is best enjoyed at the seaside and our favourite has to be Seaview Restaurant in Saltburn, its around 50 minutes drive from the cottage and is a beautiful light, bright restaurant with far reaching views out to sea, the fish and chips from here is delicious, fresh and makes the ultimate Friday night feast after a long walk on the beach.
George's Brown and Blonde Brownies are heaven on earth, so delicious we even had them at our wedding! Find them at Oliver's in Ripon and be prepared to witness every other brownie you have ever tasted pale into insignificance!
Chai Latte at the Wild Plum Cafe in Harrogate has to be my ultimate Saturday morning go to! This hidden restaurant is above the Snooty Fox dress shop on the outskirts of Harrogate and features the kind of food you would expect in indeed somewhere snooty but without the prices to match, expect edible flowers and food art, this is a firm favourite and highly recommended if you want to be wowed by your food.
Orchid in Harrogate isn't really Yorkshire food, but its made the list because its made in Yorkshire and its an independent restaurant that is flying the flag for scrumptious food that is consistently good. Asian, Thai and Chinese flavours blended, the Wasabi Prawns (not on the menu but you can ask for them) are insane. Every birthday we book a table here. Not to be missed!
Wensleydale Cheese - Fruit cake must not be served without it! We know its a weird Yorkshire quirk to put the two together yet they complement each other perfectly, if you haven't tried it, do! The visitor centre can be reached within 20 minutes drive of the cottage, go on, try the real stuff for yourself.
Pontefract Cakes, you won't know this but I was born in Pontefract and I love liquorice (much to the rest of my families horror) making me a true Yorkshire lass, luckily for me Bah Humbugs in Masham sell a whole array of liquorice in their traditional sweet shop - yummy
Yorkshire Tea - OK not technically a food but if you are from Yorkshire and you drink any other form of Tea it is frowned upon. This is the real stuff.
Last but not least Black Sheep Beer in nearby Masham, visit the Brewery, learn how its made and then taste the delicious pies made with the beer in their Bistro - a wonderful way to experience our lovely County.
Staying at Sunnyside Cottage or Naegill House is the perfect way to enjoy the stunning North Yorkshire Countryside at its best - we hope you will take us up on some of our suggestions and support local businesses during your stay with us.
